How to change skid steer chains - bobcat
Few days ago, I've bought a used bobcat 520 skid steer loader, which it self is not in a rather more decent shape. Thankfully, the engine and the hydraulics function properly, so that's not really on my concerns at the moment. one of my main concerns is that, as how I've seen it while we were unloading it, it couldn't steer. I’ve been working on our 97’ case 1840 skid steer - it has 3200hrs but has had very poor maintenance from previous mechanics. My initial problem was a very very bad hydraulic leak that resulted in removing the tandem hydraulic pump and all hydraulic hoses - the hoses were in very rough shape so got them rebuilt. roller chains are higher in tensile strength by about 20% and in maximum allowable load by about 15% than those of standard roller chains. Since the weight of the chains is also larger, HK type roller chains are suitable for the application of heavy duty at low speed." This excerpt from the link below.
1 x length can get you 2 x chains for a 1845C. (one long & one short or 2 x short) In the old days, Case always used Diamond brand - not sure now... Rayhat, thanks for those instructions. I already went thru those adjustments right after I put the chains on. I learned a scary lesson too. I bought this skid steer with the steering linkage frozen up and the drive chains removed. So I freed up the steering linkage and remade the all thread part of the linkage.
We always sourced the chains for the 1845C Case at the quarry where I worked from the same supplier we got our large Vee belts and other industrial drive parts from. However I'm trying to remember if we ever had to replace the chain from the hyd. motor to the idler gear, don't actually recall that one ever failing.
