How to make a drainage swale with a skid steer.
Look for a takeuchi fr series mini ex to rent, they have the ability to spin around with loaded bucket in less than 8'. Mine is a 053fr, and It pulls a 36" digging bucket with ease. If the mini ex thing doesnt work out, look at a ashland . Loosen the dirt with a pick. Shovel it out with a half-length snub-nosed transfer shovel. All the loose dirt goes on the downhill side of the swale, heaped up into what is called a "berm." It acts as a retaining wall and holds water back that fills the swale. My thought is to dig behind them, knock them back with a sledge hammer to be even, then drill a few holes and run a couple small rebar pieces through and into the ground below. Is this a sufficient fix?
