I have a New Holland LS 160 skid steer. The parking brake no longer holds the machine back, I am assuming it simply needs adjustment. Can anyone offer me an instruction on how to do this. The parking brake on my 2005 LS170 (730 hours) completely failed the other day. The local NH dealer, who deals mainly with tractor repairs and only occasionally construction equipment, gave me a quote of 00-1400 for the brake repair. The parking brake on my skid steer doesn't seem to keep the machine from moving anymore. I checked the manual and there is no mention of any adjustment that I could find. Is there a simple fix or does it involve a trip to the dealer? Thanks
Do not attach lifting devices to the skid steer boom or attachments on the skid steer. 1. No riders (including the operator) in or on the machine while lifting or lowering.
On some of the Caterpillar drive motors I worked on, the parking brake was spring applied, hydraulically released. On the center of the brake cover, there would be a plug, through which a puller bolt could be installed to compress the spring, & release the brake.
Always do the following before lubricating, maintaining, or servicing the machine. 1. Disengage all drives. 2. Engage parking brake. 3. Lower all attachments to the ground, or raise and engage all safety locks. 4. Page 48 Engine - Engine and crankcase 5. Remove the four mounting bolts (4) and slide the fan off the hub. 931002027 6.What you have to do is remove cotter pin ref #20 then rotate the lever ref 16 the unit left side down, and the unit right side up, 1 or 2 splines. If this has not been done before you may want to look into getting a couple of new style cotter pins, picture here, they are a lot easier to reinstall, or your unit may already have one.

Loosen jam nut and slide arm off the splines and reposition a few splines over the correct direction. You will have to figure out which way to rotate for each side. Remember that when the unit is off the brakes should be applied. ie:cyl fully extended. Question...I just purchased a LS170 and the parking brake doesn't hold.
